In compliance with provision no. 229 issued by the Authority for the Protection of Personal Data of 08/05/2014 [https://www.garanteprivacy.it/web/guest/home/docweb/-/docweb-display/docweb/3167654] at www.cariani.it you can find all relevant information on cookies, their function, and how to delete them.

What Cookies are

Cookies are small text string files that websites send to the viewer’s surfing device – generally to the browser – where they are stored. They can then be retrieved to recognize users at their next visit and customize services accordingly. Large quantities of cookies are generally to be found in users’ browsers and sometimes they may persist over an extended period of time.

What are Cookies for?

Cookies serve various purposes. They can be used as a mean to identify a given user, to monitor viewing sessions, to carry information from one session on a website to another, etc.
Cookies can be divided into two macro-categories: Technical Cookies and Profiling Cookies.

Technical Cookies
Technical cookies are used exclusively with a view to “carrying out the transmission of a communication on an electronic communications network, or insofar as this is strictly necessary to the provider of an information society service that has been explicitly requested by the contracting party or user to provide the said service” (see article 122, paragraph 1 of the Privacy Code). They are not used for further purposes and are usually installed directly by the data controller or the website manager. They can be grouped into: Browsing or Session Cookies which allow users to navigate and use a website (e.g. to purchase items on line or authenticate themselves to access websites reserved areas); Analytics Cookies which can be equated to technical cookies insofar as they are used directly by the website manager to collect aggregate information on the number of visitors and the pattern of visits to the website; Functional Cookies, which allow users to navigate as a function of certain pre-determined criteria such as language or products to be purchased in order to improve the quality of service. Technical Cookies are strictly necessary to the navigation of an internet site and to its functioning.

Profiling Cookies
Profiling cookies are aimed at creating users’ profiles. They are used to send advertisements in line with the preferences shown by the user during navigation. Profiling cookies are distinguished according to the subjects who install them on the user’s computer, namely the website manager – the publisher – or a different website operating through the publisher. The cookies installed by the latter are referred to as Third party cookies.

Types of Cookies installed and their Function

We use technical cookies that are necessary for the functioning of the website and are installed automatically when you access it. They are designed to ensure fluid navigation and secure your connection. Their function is individually specified here following. Pursuant to article 122 of the Privacy Code and to the Data Protection Commissioner Provision of 8th May 2014, technical cookies do not require any consent from the party concerned. On the contrary, third party cookies used to generate statistics on the use of the website (Google Analytics), to locate the company (Google Maps), and to allow viewing of videos (YouTube) do require user’s consent.

Managing Cookies

Most browsers allow you to accept or reject cookies in full or in part through their preference settings. However, rejecting technical cookies may compromise access to a website or reduce navigation. On the contrary, profiling cookies are generally not necessary for browsing.
For further and more detailed information, please consult the guide of the chosen browser.
It is also possible to:
- activate the Do Not Track setting available in most last generation browsers.
Once activated, websites designed to comply with this option should automatically stop collecting some of the navigation data.
- activate the Incognito Mode to navigate without leaving any trace of navigation data in browsers.
However, the Incognito mode does not guarantee anonymity on the Internet. Indeed, accepting cookies and automatically deleting them at the end of the browsing session prevents the browser from storing your data, but they will remain available to website operators and connectivity providers.

A useful tool to check which cookies are installed on your computer and eventually revoke your consent can be found at http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices.
